Valentine

We don’t really do anything special for Valentines Day, but every once in a while there is a surprise. A few weeks ago Peggy Orenstein wrote an opinion piece in the New York Times that was shared with me, and I told The Farmer I would like to read her book.

And here it is! Listening is my love language. I appreciate when someone hears my request and acts on the information. Hope your day was just as great! Love, peace, and knitting to all of you.

Hard Re-Set - Yarn Along

June had me drifting around a bit, where my only hard and fast goal was to walk 190 miles, which I accomplished. I am so grateful that the Yarn Along is on the 1st this month. (Check out the link!) It really allowed me to reflect on what I wanted and needed to do next. It was an all-day process that encompassed a few other topics besides reading and knitting, but I think this next month will be fun and productive.

So for reading I decided to mix a little pleasure (orchard planning) with a lot of business (teaching orchestra at a new school). We refurbished our outdoor seating earlier this summer, and I just parked those books out there on the coffee table in anticipation of some major porch sitting as it gets too hot to work in the garden the next week.

For knitting, it's time to stop dilly-dallying. I'm picking up my Amiga and my Storytime Scholar sweaters for some finishing this time. They both need those long collar-button band combos where I dread picking up the correct amount of stitches and then knitting for a long time. There are also so many funny sweaters where I placed the buttonholes in the wrong place, so we're looking at some possible re-knits and/or fantastic button placements.

For my own accountability, I will also be setting up some early winter gardening projects, exploring a few local hiking spots that have been on my list, and getting back to practicing viola. I hope my screen time goes down, with the exception of some additional blogging.

Happy Summer!

Yarn Along is BACK!

I am so excited that Ginny decided to bring back the Yarn Along! I was not a frequent participant, but I often got great ideas for patterns, yarn choices, and books from all the other lovely folks linking up to her posts. Do go and see what everyone is up to!

My read today is the guidebook for the Knobstone Trail in southern Indiana. I had big plans to backpack it last summer, but alas, other events took precedence. This summer I have some friends to go with, so accountability for showing up is real! Can't wait!

My knitting consists of finishing up some Christmas knitting (*sigh*). The pattern is Snowflake by Tin Can Knits and very fun. I love the mindless knitting that happens after the lace is finished.

Happy New Year to all! Stay cozy!

Yarn Along - Baby Sweater

Today's Yarn Along post comes from the road. I am spending my time in the passenger seat knitting one of Elizabeth Zimmerman's patterns: February baby sweater on two needles, while enjoying the rest of the book in between rows. This sweater will match the first of the same pattern that I knit; twin nieces whose sister got the first one will be the recipient(s).

My other book is a biography of Alma Mahler, written in German. Time to hone the multiple language skills now that it's summer!

Joining with Ginny. Check out the rest of the projects here: http://www.gsheller.com/2015/06/yarn-along-232.html

Yarn Along - Happy 2014!

Happy New Year to you! I was sorting my holiday travel knitting back into the drawer this morning and then decided to keep this Omelet Shawl out as a finishing goal for this month. The shawl has been hanging around for a long time (started June, 2012) and a multi-row mistake that needs tinking has been giving me anxiety. Maybe the rest of break will give me a chance to get back on track.

As you can see, I am also catching up on my reading this New Year's. A trip to Peru in July is setting my focus on ancient cultures and new landscapes. So very excited!

If you like to knit and read, check out what all the other crafty people are doing today on Ginny's site. Enjoy!
